Choose Full-Size Signs or Supplemental Plaques
The assortment includes several formats for building an accessible parking sign system. Full-size 18" × 12" signs are available for primary messages such as accessible parking, reserved parking, van accessibility, permit requirements, and directional guidance.
For locations that only need an accessibility symbol, a 12" × 12" International Symbol of Accessibility sign provides a more compact option. Supplemental plaques are available in 6" × 12" and 9" × 12" formats for adding information such as van accessibility, fines, or towing notices beneath or alongside a primary parking sign.
Choose the format based on what the space needs to communicate and whether the message needs to stand alone or supplement existing signage.
ADA Parking Signage Requirements
When selecting ADA parking signage, review both federal accessibility standards and any applicable state or local requirements. Under the 2010 ADA Standards, accessible parking spaces must be identified with the International Symbol of Accessibility. Signs identifying van spaces must also include the words “van accessible,” and identification signs must be mounted at least 60 inches above the finished ground surface, measured to the bottom of the sign.
At least one of every six accessible parking spaces, or fraction of six, in each parking facility must be van accessible. State and local regulations may specify additional sign characteristics or requirements, so confirm the rules that apply to your property before ordering and installation.
Van-Accessible Parking Signs
Van-accessible parking signs are available as both complete 18" × 12" signs and smaller supplemental plaques. A full-size option can combine the ISA symbol and van-accessible message in a single sign, while a 6" × 12" or 9" × 12" plaque can add the designation to an existing accessible parking sign.
This gives facilities flexibility when installing a new sign system or updating an existing accessible space without replacing every component.
Reserved Handicap Parking Signs
Reserved handicap parking signs combine accessible-space identification with reserved messaging. Available 18" × 12" formats include options with the ISA symbol, directional arrows, and van-accessible messaging.
Choose a combined sign when the full message needs to be communicated in one location or pair a primary accessible parking sign with an appropriate supplemental plaque when separate messages better fit the installation.
Aluminum Handicap Parking Signs for Exterior Use
Many current aluminum handicap parking signs are made from 0.080" aluminum with weather-resistant reflective vinyl for exterior use. Full-size and supplemental options include predrilled mounting holes, and several current traffic-control styles carry a seven-year warranty. Posts are sold separately.
Reflective construction helps keep the message visible as lighting conditions change. When comparing signs, also consider the dimensions, amount of information displayed, mounting location, and whether the sign will serve as the primary identification or a supplement to another sign.
Choosing Disabled Parking Signage for Your Property
Start with the information required at each accessible space. A location may need a full-size identification sign, a van-accessible designation, a directional message, or supplemental information about permits, fines, or towing.
Review the existing signage before ordering so you can determine which messages need to stand alone and which can be added with a smaller plaque. For posts, brackets, and other installation components, shop Parking Sign Posts & Traffic Sign Hardware .
