For facilities located in either New York City or the state of California, there are particular elevator evacuation plans you will need. Specifically, our do not use elevator signs instruct people to take the stairs in the event of an emergency, not the elevator.
As stated under NYC Ch30, Section 3002.3, NYC elevator evacuation plans are to be posted above the elevator call button. However, for medical buildings in California, CFC Ch4, Section 404.6.3 and indicates that California elevator emergency evacuation plans must be installed adjacent to the elevator call button.
